Trint makes it easy to:
Trint uses the world’s best automated speech-to-text algorithms to generate accurate transcripts. The easy-to-use Trint Editor glues text to the original audio (and video) so you can search, verify and if necessary correct your transcript without leaving the Trint Editor.
You can export video with captions or embed searchable transcripts on to your site.

We have worked hard to keep prices as low as possible: The Pay As You Go price is $15/hr, if you buy monthly it can go down to as low as $12/hr. More info here on our pricing.
There are real computing costs associated with every minute we transcribe. The Pay As You Go price is $15/hr, if you buy monthly it can go down to as low as $12/hr. Compared to the industry average rate of $100–200 per hour for manual transcription we think this is a bargain!
Trint was born in December 2014 when Veteran journalist Jeff Kofman teamed up with developer Mark Boas to transform the way in which we approach transcription. Months of ground-breaking development and experimentation followed resulting in what we have today; a pioneering automated speech recognition tool for audio and video files that allows you to produce transcripts you can actually trust.
Manual transcription is both time-consuming and costly. With reasonable transcription coming in at $100-200 per hour and often taking days to deliver it is an exorbitant process that is outdated given the rapid advancements with modern speech-to-text technology. Trint was setup to address the challenges that have plagued journalists, lawyers, media professionals and the like through enabling users to achieve the same accuracy as manual transcription but much faster and cheaper using Trint’s auto-transcription and verification tools.
Trint quickly gives users the ability to search, verify, correct, edit and export the usable content of recorded speech. Importantly however, Trint is much more than a substitute for manual transcription allowing the user to effortlessly disseminate edited or extracted audio/video/text content to traditional platforms (print, radio, TV) and to online and social media.
Trint is the affordable option that’s available for anyone to use. Our software extends automated speech-to-text to vast new markets and we currently have users in multiple industries including; journalism, media, law, academia and publishing to name just a few.
Trint usually converts the uploaded video or audio to text in less time than the length of the file. For example a 45min video interview would typically take less that 45 minutes. That being said a solid internet connection will help deliver the speediest results.
Trint currently offers language models for British English, North American English, Australian English & European Spanish. Watch this space, we’re set to release more in the near future (this is just the beginning).

To get the most of Trint it is essential that you upload high quality audio. We think Trint can perform magic, but we can't perform miracles. Even though we use the world’s best automated speech-to-text algorithms, the accuracy of your transcripts depend on the quality of audio you give us.
That being the case ensure that your recordings are as clean as possible. That means maintaining a consistent recording environment, avoiding background noise and using high quality microphones. If your recording includes multiple speakers make sure that each of them speak directly into the microphone and avoid talking over one another.
Although we constantly strive to improve our language models, Trint can struggle when faced with heavy accents or sporadic diction. We currently offer accent support in the following language models: British English, North American english, Australian English & European Spanish.
Trint Tip: If your audio/video file contains two or more accents to achieve best results select the language model of the weaker speaker.
Trint supports a variety of audio and video files:
When you signed up for an account we gave you 30 minutes of free credit to upload audio/video files of your interviews, lectures, speeches etc. If you haven’t upgraded to a subscription just yet and have used all your credit any files you attempt to upload will be locked. You can unlock these files by either:

Exporting your edits on Trint is easy. Simply open the file in the editor, click on the green export button in the top right hand corner and select either a) entire document b) just highlights depending on the selection of text you need. You can then choose the relevant format (word document, SubRip format, VTT format or Interactive Transcript) and the export will appear in your downloads.
We take security extremely seriously at Trint and go to great lengths to ensure that your content and data is protected. With this in mind no one can access your Trints unless you decide to actively share them. Were still in beta and in the process of attaining data security certification. If you have any specific questions regarding security please contact us or refer to our T&C’s.
Finished tidying up a transcript and need to send it over to a colleague? You can easily share your Trint by hitting the EMAIL icon in the top right hand side of the editor. This will send over a like for like copy of your transcript which can then be further worked on or exported into one of many formats. N.B. In order to access your Trint your colleagues will need to register for an account - they can do this here.
Trint works best on Chrome. However be sure to disable any 3rd party extensions such as pop-up blockers which can reduce Trint’s overall functionality.
We’ve tried to make the editor as intuitive as possible and that means not only making it simple to use but ensuring that it saves you time.
Here’s a handy list of keyboard shortcuts that will help you navigate even more easily.
Note Mac users should also use the ‘control’ key not the ‘command’ key.

The Trint Editor is a combination of a text editor and a media player. In a text editor the space bar is used to create a space. In a media player the space is used to play and pause audio and video. Most people use Trint to quickly edit the text of their transcripts to perfect. In short, the text editor won!
At the beginning of each paragraph Trint automatically includes timestamps to pinpoint exactly when a new speaker talks or a new paragraph begins.

To turn these off:

Trint’s pioneering voice recognition software automatically identifies different speakers and segments them into separate paragraphs.

To assign a new speaker click the arrow at the top left of each paragraph.
If speakers aren’t recognized, press Enter to create a new paragraph and then add a new name as outlined above.
Speakers can also be registered for each Trint on My Trints under on the drop-down menu option on the far right. If you have already registered speakers you can select their names from a drop-down list at the start of the paragraph.

Skip content while playing back your Trints. Simply hit the Strikeout button to ignore unwanted content.

You can also choose to strikeout text but still hear the corresponding audio:

Mark important sections of your transcript. Once highlighted your sections will appear in yellow in the text and on the Progress bar:

The highlighted sections of your transcript will show two timings:
At the beginning a timestamp shows how far into the recording the selection starts:
At the end a second timestamp shows the duration of the highlighted section:
To export click on the button in the top right. You’ll have the option to export all of your content or just the highlights in a variety of formats:

Exporting to Word means you can share and edit your transcript in the most commonly used word processing format. Most importantly you can include the key features of your transcript including Timestamps, Highlighting and Strikeout in the text document.

SRT (SubRip text file format) is a UTF-8 text format that is readable by most desktop and media centre video player software. When it’s loaded with the associated video or audio file it will display subtitles or captions over the top.
SRT is represented by plain text so you can easily change the text or translate it manually in any basic text editor.
Uploading SRT captions or subtitles to YouTube? It’s really easy! Just hit this link and follow the instructions.
WebVTT (Web Video Text Tracks) is a text format based on SRT that you can combine with web video to display captions and subtitles on a webpage. VTT allows your captions to be stylized.

EDL (Editing Decision List) is a format that describes text and timecodes that many video editing suites understand. You can use EDL to export selected highlights from Trint’s Editor into Adobe Premiere. We plan to add support for systems such as Avid soon. Check out this page for more info or this video for a step by step guide:
Interactive Transcripts help your audience find relevant sections of your content more easily. When you embed an Interactive Transcript in your site it will appear as a video or audio with a transcript below it and a search bar next to it. Your audience can search for the content they want in your video or audio file. When they find it it’s easy to Tweet and share your content on social media.
